The Tights Obsession
In the 1920’s the tight industry exploded for two reasons: they started making them from nylon instead of silk (making them cheaper) and hemlines became shorter, allowing legs to be visible. After 100 years I can confidently say the tight obsession is back. Gucci tights have taken over Instagram — seriously it’s like a Gucci epidemic, but they’re not the only high fashion brand taking part in this trend. We saw white Saks Potts tights plastered in their SP logo, Fausto Puglisi with sheer black polka dots, Sara Battaglia with solid purple tights, Red Valentino with solid red tights, Versace with an orange and blue pattern, lace at Dolce and Gabbana, and Mulberry had cool toned marbleized tights.
To name a few influencers that are no strangers to tights: Reese Blutstein (ig: @double3xposure), Christie Tyler (ig: @nycbambi), Courtney Trop (ig: @alwaysjudging), and Orion Carloto (ig: @orionvanessa). These girls have been showing of their legs clad in Gucci and Saks Potts logos as if there was no tomorrow.
I’ve always liked the idea of wearing tights because it’s an easy way of bringing your spring and summer wardrobe into the cold winter months. So whip out those skirts ladies because this winter instead of pants we’re wearing tights.
