Australia Resort 2020
It’s only right for Australia to tell us what’s hot this summer! In Sydney, Resort 2020 collections are on full display, as is Australia’s patriotism.
Aje kicked off Australian Fashion Week, which used their country as a muse to their resort collection. According to Vogue, a board member of Sydney’s Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council gave a speech on the culture and history of the Gadigal peoples. The brand wanted to embrace it’s Australian heritage by including a desert and oceanside color palette, a souvenir shirt with a koala patch, and styles they popularized in the Australian market. Aje featured key summer trends such as billowing sleeves, matching sets, paperbag waists, and contrast stitching.
Jonathan Simkhai, a Los Angeles designer, decided Sydney was just the place for his sultry Resort 2020 designs. It was set at sundown at Bondi Beach and the model walked the runway in sexy cutouts and leather matching sets. These pieces showed the ideal amount of skin, never too risky, but definitely an eye-catcher. Simkhai even included ‘70s infused swimwear perfect for relaxing in the sand at Bondi beach. He collaborated with jewelry designer Lisa Corbo, Oliver Peoples eyewear, and Manolo Blahnik, which truly transformed the collection.
An ethereal presence known none other than Alice McCall graced Australian Fashion Week. Romantic and whimsical dresses are staple for Alice McCall and her use of billowing sleeves, micro ruffles, and lurex fabric were the key elements in this collection. Accessorizing with barrettes is a must this summer and every “it” girl knows it; Alice McCall made sure to include these hair accessories on the models.
Bassike hasn’t appeared in a runway format for quite sometime, so this free-spitted collection was sure grab people’s attention. The paint splatter looks are key for this summer, as it is an adaptation of tie-dye — which everyone seems to be wearing now. They included bucket hats in their collection as well, which seems to be having a huge comeback this summer.
