S/S 2019 Runway Recap: All The Trends Worth Trying
I have spent hours analyzing every picture released on Vogue Runway and here are all the trends that I think are worth trying out. The trends in detail are ruffles, one shoulder, fringe, and billow sleeves. The trends in material include vinyl, sequins, and chain metal. The most popular prints are animal and paisley.
Details:
Something that brought a girly vibe to Spring 2019’s runway was ruffles. At Marc Jacobs we saw ruffly Pierrot collars and pastels taking shape in girly ruffled dresses. Molly Goddard featured baby blue overcoats with frill details and mossy green dresses perfect for a hot summers day with a touch of ruffles. We saw tulle ruffles lined with black trim, which gave a harsh contrast against the stark white fabric at Jenny Packham’s runway show. At La DoubleJ, orange psychedelic 60’s print mixed with ruffles was all the rage. Aqua colored vinyl and tiered ruffled silk with pleats was seen on Giorgio Armani. Romance Was Born presented a magenta colored dress that was right above the knee with tiered ruffles.
One shoulder looks dominated the runways. Marianna Senchina collection is a mix of ‘80s party girl and Parisian cool girl all in one. Her polka dot dresses perfect for a night out had a sexy one shoulder detail. At Flow the Label we saw ‘70s inspired beachwear that had one shoulder detail in golden lamé and muted pastel paisley creations. One shoulder garments were even seen on Max Mara taking shape in neutral colored jumpsuits. The one shoulder detail makes you look and feel sexy.
Everyone is loving the wild west twist with fringe. Coach 1941 has been producing incredible work and for Spring they decided to go for the bohemian aesthetic and decorated their suede vests with long fringe. Beautiful shimmery pencil skirts that reminded me of a mermaids tail were seen at Sally LaPointe finished with fringe that reflected in the light. At Byblos we saw dresses with ocean and sunset colored fringe that was both long and short fringe.
Billow or bell sleeves is one of the trends I’m most excited for. Almost all of Peter Pilotto’s dresses were equipped with billow sleeves. Some of the creations reminded you of the ‘70s and others had a medieval flare. Sara Battagila combined billow sleeves with menswear and also gave us prairie-esque blouses. This trend is up and coming and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of it.
Material:
Vinyl has been loved for a couple season’s. It’s no surprise this ‘90s trend is here to stay, not only is it eye catching, if it’s styled correctly it can be stylish. We saw transparent taupe vinyl rain coats and a skirt sets at Sally Lapointe. A black vinyl trench coat was seen on ALEXACHUNG’s runway. Martin Grant had gator colored vinyl windbreakers, skirts, and trench coats.
Sequins are perfect for your nights out. A beautiful long transparent sequin dress was seen in Norma Kamali’s look book. Sally Lapointe had sequins all throughout the collection in multitude of colors. We saw a sequin cotton candy skirt on Markus Lupfer. The “new” Celine featured red, black, green, silver, and gold sequins.
My favorite ‘60s infused trend has to be chain metal. Of course we saw it on Paco Rabanne, the designer that brought this trend to life. The collection featured gold rings linked together overlaid on white tops. Saint Laurent even had silver chain metal tops mixed with menswear.
Prints:
The biggest trend this season had to be animal print, it has literally taken over every store in the last two weeks. Cheetah, tiger, zebra, snake skin, etc. have been included in the collections of Nanette Lepore, Burberry, Dolce Gabbana, Saint Laurent, Off-White and many others. This trend plays with neon colors as well.
