The Ultimate Sex Playlist

Picture this, you’re watching your favorite 80’s racy rom-com, maybe Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and things are getting steamy between Stacy & Ron in the dugout scene and boom, it’s completely silent. There’s no music, no fireworks, and no passion— just awkward silence. This would never happen in a movie, there’s always some steamy music playing in the background while movie characters get it on; why should real life be any different? Whether it’s jazz, pop, hardcore, alternative or r&b, there are gems in each genre that can be a catalyst for steamy moments. Here’s how you curate the perfect sex playlist.

Everyone is different, which means what gets each person going is also completely different. However, I think a sure fire way to get the vibes going is by playing r&b. Artists like Steve lacy, Miguel and Jhene Aiko have plenty of songs about sex and love to set the mood. My personal favorites include the “Valley” by Miguel, “C U Girl” or “Dark Red” by Steve Lacy and “The Worst” or “Maniac” by Jhene Aiko. All of these songs are located on my sex playlist and are essential for having a good time.

Some other artists I’ve got to highlight are Joji, The Weeknd, Daniel Cesar, Frank Ocean, Kali Uchis, Glass Animals and GoldLink. If you don’t have all of these key artists on your r&b sex playlist, get ready for an awkward time.

In 2017, Cosmopolitan magazine released a study, which showed that a large portion of people have great sex when listening to hardcore and more upbeat songs. This makes sense, but I think it also 100% depends on what type of sex you’re about to have. Making love with your boyfriend of two years might call for r&b, meanwhile rough sex with your one night stand might call for some more upbeat or hardcore songs to keep things less awkward. So, if we’re talking hardcore I suggest Asking Alexandria or The Word Alive. That’s if you and your partner are genuinely into hardcore music. If not, these songs might catch you off guard, but I know a few sources who have had sex to these kinds of songs and had some of the most mind blowing sex of their lives.

If you’re looking for upbeat songs you can hump to the beat of anything by Drake, Future, The Weeknd, and Cardi B. These artists have upbeat songs that still feature sexy beats to help you out. 2010’s rap classics like “Fuck Up Some Commas” and “Crew Love” can really help set the mood. These songs also won’t distract from the task at hand since you’ve heard them thousands of times.

Finally, alternative, which is one of my favorite genres. Nirvana and Arctic Monkeys are perfect alt artists to have sex to. The Arctic Monkeys entire self titled album features songs that are all pretty perfect for the seductive vibes. My personal favorite is “R U Mine”. I mean, who doesn’t get turned on by British people singing about how bad they want you. The song “Breed” by Nirvana is the perfect mix of upbeat and angsty, just like sex is supposed to be. Other alt artists that have a few sexy hits are The Neighborhood and The 1975. “Sweater Weather” and “Sex” are obvious BANGers by these artists, but flip through their discography to find songs that better match your playlist.

One more thing that I need to highlight that is essential for any sex playlist is the buffer period songs. If you’re hanging out with your potential lover you don’t want the first song that plays to be “Birthday Sex”, because this can cause some awkwardness. I always try to throw a couple songs in the queue to play before you have sex. These songs are still chill and are meant to play in the background of the totally enticing convo you have before getting freaky. I usually use songs by Rex Orange County or slow Brockhampton songs. These songs are chill but not too sexy, which gives you two a minute to talk.

I hope I helped anyone who was indecisive about what songs to add to their playlist, and if you had sex to some of these songs please don’t let me know! Attached is my personal Spotify sex playlist titled “😏”. Give it a listen or have a blast creating your own. Also, remember to always use protection!
