The Highlights and Horrors of Fall Couture 2019
Only very few designers truly outdone themselves in their Fall Couture 2019 collection and the rest were pitiful horrors. The Highlights of Fall Couture 2019 were Guo Pei and Iris van Herpen. Guo Pei opened the show with a brocade dress perfect for Siamese twins, by that I mean it was meant for two people to wear at once. The headwear was elaborate, the feathers jutted out wear they could, and the embellishments were the art itself. Now this is couture.
Then there’s Iris van Herpen that didn’t have the same approach of turning clothes into fine baroque art, but a different form of art. It was all about moving parts, intricate line work, and it all looked so ethereal.
On the other hand we have the not so impressive couture collections.Virgine Viard, Chanel’s newest creative director, presented us with poised strong women in classic Chanel tweed, but was this collection barely passable as couture. With only a few strong pieces the rest would’ve been only satisfactory for ready to wear. Not to mention some designs that should’ve never graced the runway at all. Viard will no doubt succeed, but maybe in her next collection.
Couture is an excuse to be as daring and luxurious as one can be, hopefully spring couture won’t be as drab as this last one.
