Bernard Arnault Partners with Stella McCartney to Make LVMH Sustainable
The collaboration between LVMH’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Bernard Arnault and Stella McCartney to make LVMH more sustainable is a somewhat surprising. For starters Kering, LVMH’s rival, owned 50% stake of Stella McCartney until she bought them out recently. Besides Kering owning part of the brand they’re actually at the forefront of sustainability.
According to The New York Times, Kering, “ranked first among fashion and luxury companies on the Corporate Knights’ 2019 Global 100 Index for the second straight year in January.” Kering’s brands are making changes for the better, an example would be Gucci going fur free Spring 2018.
Meanwhile LVMH’s sustainable efforts move much slower, but now since McCartney’s on board she might be able to fix their unethical behavior. It’s obvious LVMH wants to change and be better for the environment and this was no doubt an amazing deal for McCartney, since she now owns majority of the the stakes in her own brand.
It’s important these large fashion conglomerates challenge themselves to start seeing the bigger picture because if they don’t not only will fashion cease to exist, but so will the world.
